Somatic Therapy in Dubai — Care for Your Nervous System

"I don't feel relaxed. My mind doesn't shut down. There's constant pressure." If that sounds familiar, your body isn't being difficult — it's stuck in a stress response it can't think its way out of. Somatic therapy works with the body directly, so the nervous system can learn to settle.

What Is Somatic Therapy?

Conventional therapy often works with the story — what happened, what is happening, and how you think about what may happen next.

Somatic therapy brings attention to how that experience is showing up in your body — through thoughts, images, emotions, sensations, tension, breath and nervous-system responses.

Through guided awareness, breath, movement and therapeutic support, you learn to recognise these body responses and develop tools to regulate them — creating greater awareness, safety and choice in how you respond.

Notice.
Learning to feel what the body is doing — tension, breath, posture — without judgement.
Complete.
Stress responses that got interrupted are given a safe way to finish and discharge.
Regulate.
The system practises moving between activation and rest — flexibility, not just calm.
Integrate.
New patterns become the default: deeper breath, softer shoulders, real recovery.
You can't think your way out of a state your body is holding. But you can work with the body directly.

Wherever You Are, Your Body Is Responding

Whether in Dubai, New York or anywhere in the world, modern life can keep your nervous system in a constant state of demand.

We're designed to move between activation and recovery. Somatic work helps you recognise when that balance is disrupted and develop the awareness and tools to return to regulation.

01
"I'm functioning, but I'm not okay."

Stress & burnout recovery

High performers whose bodies never get the memo that the day is over. Somatic sessions retrain the off-switch — so recovery actually happens between demands.

02
"My heart races for no reason."

The physical side of anxiety

Racing heart, tight chest, shallow breath, restlessness. Body-based work helps regulate these responses directly — alongside, not instead of, any mental-health care you're receiving.

03
"The tension always comes back."

Chronic tension & persistent pain

When massage and stretching give relief that fades in days, the nervous system is usually re-creating the guarding. Somatic therapy addresses why the body keeps bracing.

04
"I sleep, but I don't wake up rested."

Sleep & recovery problems

Rest requires a system that can actually down-shift. Sessions build that capacity — deeper exhale, softer muscles, genuine recovery.

05
"I feel far away from myself."

Shutdown, numbness & disconnection

The freeze end of the stress response. Gentle, paced work reintroduces sensation and presence — at a speed your body can accept.

06
"The injury healed. My body didn't relax."

Post-injury guarding & rehab plateaus

Where physiotherapy meets somatic work: releasing the protective patterns the nervous system learned during injury, so rehabilitation can finish.

Which state is your nervous system stuck in?

Your system moves between four settings. Getting stuck in one is what chronic stress feels like. Tap each to explore.

The stuck state

Wired, irritable, ready to snap.

The body mobilises to confront. Useful in real danger — exhausting as a daily setting.

  • Jaw clenching
  • Tight shoulders
  • Short fuse
  • Racing heart
How sessions help

Sessions work with breath, movement and touch to discharge the mobilised energy — so the body learns it's allowed to stand down.

Somatic Techniques Used in Sessions

Certified, body-led methods — chosen for your nervous system, never applied as a script.

Somatic movement

Slow, attention-led movement that lets the body find its own release — the opposite of pushing through a stretch.

Breathwork & vagus-nerve practices

Breath patterns that signal safety to the nervous system — lengthening the exhale, opening the ribs, downshifting the whole system.

Hands-on fascial & myofascial work

Where the physiotherapy training shows: releasing the connective tissue that stores held tension, with clinical precision.

Grounding & orienting

Simple, powerful practices that bring the system back to the present moment and the actual room — the foundation of regulation.

Access Bars®

A gentle touch-point technique for deep mental quiet — offered as a complement to somatic sessions for clients who want it.

Interoception training

Learning to read your body's signals earlier and more accurately — so tension gets addressed at "tight," not at "pain."

Somatic therapy vs talk therapy.

Not competitors — different doors into the same house. Many people benefit from both.

The Science Behind Somatic Therapy, Briefly

Plain language, honest claims — the current understanding of why body-based work helps.

Your autonomic nervous system runs a constant background assessment: am I safe? When the answer is "not sure" for long enough — a demanding job, an old injury, chronic pressure — the body settles into a defensive setting and stays there. Muscles brace, breath shortens, digestion and sleep get deprioritised. Crucially, this happens below conscious thought, which is why knowing you "should relax" changes very little.

Somatic therapy works at the level the pattern lives: the body. Slowing the breath, restoring movement and reintroducing safe sensation give the nervous system direct evidence that the threat has passed — evidence a conversation alone can't supply. Over sessions, the system's flexibility improves: it can still activate when needed, and it can also find its way back down.

A supportive, body-based approach that complements — and does not replace — medical or psychological care. In crisis or managing a diagnosed condition? Speak with a doctor or mental-health professional first.
01Polyvagal-informedThe vagus nerve links breath, heart rate, gut and voice to the sense of safety. Engaging it supports down-regulation.
02InteroceptionAccurate body-signal awareness is linked to better emotional regulation — a skill sessions actively build.
03Nervous-system flexibilityThe goal isn't permanent calm — it's a system that can move between states instead of getting stuck.
04Body & painPersistent pain is modulated by the nervous system, not just tissue. Regulation is part of modern pain care.

Why a physiotherapist-led approach

Body-Based, Clinically Grounded.

Most somatic practitioners come from coaching. Dr. Shubhangii Gaikwaad comes from sixteen years of clinical physiotherapy — which means the same session that calms your nervous system can also read what your fascia, posture and breath are doing, and treat it.

Body and mind, one practitioner who understands both — with the clinical judgement to know when somatic work is the right tool, and when you need something else first.

Questions, answered

Somatic therapy FAQs.

Is somatic therapy the same as talk therapy or counselling?+
No — it's body-based, working with breath, sensation and movement rather than talking through problems. It can complement counselling, but it is not a replacement for mental-health care.
Can somatic therapy help with anxiety?+
Many people use it to help manage the physical side of anxiety — racing heart, tightness, restlessness — by supporting nervous-system regulation. It is not a treatment for clinical anxiety disorders; see a doctor for diagnosis.
What happens in a first session?+
A conversation about what your body has been carrying, gentle guided attention to breath and sensation, and body-led work at your pace. Nothing is forced, and everything is explained.
Do sessions work online?+
Yes — somatic and regulation work translates well to video, and sessions are offered worldwide in English and Hindi.
How many sessions will I need?+
Nervous-system change is gradual. Many people feel a shift in the first session; lasting regulation usually builds over a series, agreed honestly with you after the first one.
How much does somatic therapy cost in Dubai?+
Sessions are priced per 60-minute session, with packages available for a series. The exact fee is confirmed before you book — no surprises.
Is somatic therapy the same as massage?+
No. Massage works on tissue; somatic therapy works with the nervous system that tells tissue to hold. Hands-on techniques may be part of a session, but the goal is regulation, not relaxation for an hour.
Is this trauma therapy?+
Sessions are trauma-informed — paced, consent-led and never forcing. They are not a substitute for psychological trauma treatment. Many clients use somatic work alongside a psychologist, and we're happy to coordinate.
Can somatic therapy help with burnout?+
Burnout is a nervous system that has lost its recovery capacity. Somatic work targets exactly that — rebuilding the ability to down-shift, rest and restore. It pairs well with the Recovery & Reset programme.
What should I wear?+
Comfortable clothing you can move and breathe in. Nothing is removed; hands-on work is done through clothing and always with consent.

Your Nervous System Can Learn to Settle.

Not by trying harder — by being shown the way back, one session at a time.
